This year we were proud to be one of the more than 40 designers, studios and producers that collaborated on the amazing project “The Exploded View” presented and realized during the Dutch Design Week 2021 by Biobased Creations.
Using a metaphor of a house “The Exploded View” is the representation of a multi-year research aimed to show the sustainable materials of today, tomorrow and the future, a reappraisal of what is valuable. If we really want to live a circular life, with respect for nature, the planet, and each other, then we must redefine what is valuable to us.
Mogu collaborated at the fungi’s room by providing our Mogu FLOOR that replaces traditional industrial pigments with low-value biomasses such as corn crops, rice straw, spent coffee grounds, discarded seaweed and clam shells and our WAVE acoustic modules made from 100% bio-based, biodegradable materials.
MOGU FLOOR
The Mogu FLOOR is a collection of bio-based resilient tiles for interior design and architecture. A perfect solution to support a fully circular approach within the building industry. A product that consists of a high-density, mycelium composite core, combined with an exclusively formulated bio-based covering. The Mogu FLOOR, and all the Mogu’s products, can contribute to achieve a transition to carbon-neutral and sustainable transition, thanks to their virtuous life cycle and positive VOC emissions.
WAVE ACOUSTIC PANELS
The WAVE Acoustic Panels are certified products created by fermenting selected mycelium (the vegetative part of a fungus) on cotton residues deriving from the textile industry. Mogu Acoustic modules are made of soft, foam-like mycelium composite materials, relying on the valorization of up cycled textile residues through fungal fermentation.
The technical 3D modules include also the models Kite, Fields and Plain, as functional solutions characterized by unique haptic qualities, and designed to maximize sound absorption and overall comfort in interior spaces, a perfect solution for any environment, elegantly fitting professional or residential landscapes with a beautiful, responsible and emotionally engaging functionality.
The “Exploded View” wins a Henry van de Velde Award, the biggest design awards in Belgium, in the category Design Research. A big achievement for a sustainable future.
